Control Rooms for Power Generation

Whether for traditional coal and gas turbine power generation or the harnessing of renewable energy sources - wind, solar, geothermal, and hydro - we've supported the power generation industry as technologies have advanced.

Our control rooms function in power generation plants across the globe, including all of the Americas, Europe, the Middle East, Russia, and the Orient. We construct and electrically integrate our control rooms in accordance with the national and local codes and specifications of most regions. In addition, we conform to master codes, such as those of the NEC, IEC, CE, and CSA.

Our control rooms are used in base load and peaker plant applications for both gas turbine block and the balancing of plant requirements. You'll see them…

  • in coal yards
  • at the base of cooling towers
  • in wind farm substations
  • among acres of solar panels

The rugged construction of our control rooms makes them suitable for any environment, including…

  • seismic-rated zones
  • sandy deserts
  • frozen tundra
  • windblown mountaintops
  • midwestern cornfields

You can trust our expert electrical integration teams for efficient, cost-effective equipment installation and wiring. We understand the special requirements of the power generation industry, whether it be for…

  • excitation systems
  • switchgear
  • MCCs
  • battery backup power

Although most of our control rooms are fabricated from G90 galvanized steel, we also build them in aluminum or stainless steel. Regardless of the materials, regardless of whether the control room is to be located outside or in a turbine hall, we protect all interior and exterior surfaces with a combination of two-part, catalyzed epoxy and polyurethane finishes.

Every power generation project and location is unique. That's why our building system is highly flexible. We can accommodate major modifications and adapt to almost any interior or interior requirement, including…

  • size
  • removable wall sections
  • provisions for expansion
  • doors
  • windows
  • access for cable
  • insulation
  • acoustic dampening
  • lighting
  • plumbing
  • grounding

Every control room is engineered as a portable structure, totally self-supporting from the base, and can be mounted directly to framework, piers, pads, or foundations with all equipment installed.

The construction also is self-framing, using an interlocking panel wall and roof system with smooth

The walls and roof are assembled on a heavy-duty welded steel base of structural shapes and beams. These are chosen and arranged to provide the engineered structural integrity and to receive any floor-mounted equipment.

Typically, the bottom of the base is supplied with a welded and sealed inner panel. This provides both weather and rodent seal, holds floor insulation, and allows for convenient building penetration for external wires and cables.

The entire base is considered a wireway because all points throughout the structure are accessible from the subfloor wireway system. It's a cost-effective wiring method that generally eliminates the need for overhead cable trays.
